A short history of the Lagos Steam Tramway (1902-1933).
It is striking how difficult it is to get around Lagos Island. Today, halting “go-slows” still prevent motorists from moving around quickly. The situation is aggravated by badly maintained roads and even worse drainage, which often leads to seasonal flooding. There is a constant demand for well run, affordable public transportation, especially high capacity trains. Few Lagosians realize that one such solution, at least for Lagos Island ran for a few decades at the turn of the twentieth century.
